Do you know why is a Roma tomato called a Roma?
Even though “Roma” sounds Italian, the first Roma tomato was made by the USDA in 1955. But Roma tomatoes share some features with the famous Italian tomato called San Marzano.
Roma tomatoes are a kind of plum tomato, but not all plums are Romas. Romas are called paste tomatoes because they have thicker walls, fewer seeds, and denser, grainier flesh. Romas are usually shaped like ovals and feel heavy for their size. They’re also firmer compared to other tomatoes.
When we compare San Marzano and Roma tomatoes, San Marzanos are longer and thinner and taste sweeter. @{LindaPollender} , have you favorite Roma’s type variety?
