Joseph is a sustenance farmer and breeder of landrace crops in Paradise, Utah (USA), a village settled by his ancestors in 1860. Landrace crops are locally adapted, genetically diverse, promiscuously pollinating plants that have proven themselves highly resilient in difficult and ever-changing conditions. Joseph’s farm-specific varieties accept external pollination, allowing the crop’s genetics to interact with the local climate and soil for optimum taste and reliability. In addition to following his family’s methods, his knowledge is based on a 20-year career in synthetic, analytical, and environmental chemistry. As a World Tomato Society Ambassador, Joseph travels to national speaking events and seed conferences, sharing information and knowledge about his projects, wild tomatoes, and landrace seeds.
