‘Gondwana Lava’* is an eye-catching tomato from Patrina’s Dwarf Gondwana Series,** created by Patrina Nuske Small of Australia from a cross between ‘Adelaide Festival’ F5 and ‘Indigo Rose’ in 2012. This cross later was named after her ‘Curiosity’ family. ‘Gondwana Lava’ was selected by Patrina and introduced in 2020.
Determinate regular leaf, dwarf-type plant produces small (2-3,5oz./50-100g), round, purple fruits with very dark green stripes and antho shoulders. Succulent flesh is flavorful and slightly acidic with a nice sweet aftertaste. Midseason, about 80 days to maturity.
*The ‘Gondwana Lava’ was released and sold under the following OSSI Pledge: ‘The Open Source Seed Initiative’ is dedicated to maintaining fair and open access to plant genetic resources worldwide in order to ensure the availability of germplasm to farmers, gardeners, breeders, and communities of this and future generations.
**These dwarf varieties were developed by Patrina Nuske Small separately from the ‘Dwarf Tomato Project’. Patrina’s Dwarf Gondwana Series includes Gondwana Lava, Gondwana Lightning, Gondwana Moon, and Gondwana Rose, Gondwana Thunder.
